Idaho Arena

The University of Idaho is seeking donor support to construct a 4,700-seat Idaho Arena to serve as the home for Vandal men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball teams as well as a gathering place for academic events, special concerts and meetings. The project is more than halfway to its fundraising goal and has moved to the planning and design phase following approval from the Idaho State Board of Education.

Slated for construction on the north side of the ASUI-Kibbie Activity Center, the Idaho Arena has the potential to take the Vandal basketball and volleyball teams to a new level of national attention and interest. The new venue will strengthen recruiting, rally fan excitement and improve the residential campus environment for all students, faculty/staff and the university community.

The Idaho Arena will not only be a home for Vandal court sports, but also a gathering space for a variety of events to enhance student life on UI’s residential campus including specialty concerts, academic conferences and other student events.

The new facility will be a showpiece for UI’s student-athletes, tell the story of Idaho’s heritage and provide a unique gathering place for generations of Vandals to come. Please join us in supporting the Idaho Arena project with your contribution today!

Idaho Arena Moving to Design Phase

Feb. 15, 2017 — The Idaho State Board of Education (SBOE) gave the University of Idaho approval to move into the planning and design phase of the proposed Idaho Arena, a 4,700-seat facility that will house Vandal court sports and university events. The SBOE approved the next phase of the project at its meeting Wednesday in Boise.

“We are thrilled to move forward with this much-anticipated investment at UI,” President Chuck Staben said. “It is proof of our commitment to providing a great experience for our student-athletes, our students and our fans.”

The $30 million project is over halfway to its fundraising goal, which includes funding support from students, alumni, friends and corporations. As fundraising continues, UI will move forward securing the architects and builders needed for a signature wood-engineered facility using mass timber construction.

The University is engaged in discussions with future partners from renewable resource industries with expertise in engineered wood products. The conversations within the wood industry have generated excitement for the project within the state, regionally and nationally as this would be the first signature wood facility of its size built within the state.

A strong endorsement for the project has also come from the student body. Recognizing the importance of the arena and special event center, the students voted to raise the student facilities fee to help support the project.
