Making A Gift

There are many ways to give back to the University of Idaho including:

Annual Giving
: Annual Giving is a culture in which philanthropy is a prized value, and giving to the University of Idaho is an annual tradition. If you already give every year, you understand the importance of continual support. If you don’t, please consider the impact that you can make by giving every year at the level that works for you.

There are many opportunities in scholarship, as well as giving to specific colleges or departments.
Matching Gifts: If you are employed by a company that matches charitable gifts, you can increase the value of your gift to the University of Idaho. While most employers’ programs double their employees’ gifts, some will triple or quadruple a gift to the University of Idaho. Gift society membership is based on your gift and your employer’s matching gift, if both are received in the same fiscal year.
Planned Giving: A gift is "planned" to the extent that the donor purposefully integrates a charitable gift into the donor's overall financial, tax, and estate planning. A planned gift enables a donor to make a positive financial difference for the donor and for his family, while also making an important gift to the University of Idaho. "Planned" gifts are often thought of as leaving a legacy that benefits not only the donor and the donor's family, but also future generations.

A planned gift can provide a donor with a variety of benefits including:
  • Increasing current income for the donor or others
  • Reducing income taxes and/or estate taxes
  • Reducing or avoiding capital gains taxes
  • Passing assets on to family members at reduced tax costs

Planned gifts can be made using many different kinds of assets. Most planned gifts are made with cash or appreciated marketable securities. However, depending on the donor's particular circumstances, gifts are often made using qualified retirement account assets, real estate, insurance policies, and even artwork or business interests.
