I AM Adam Burk

I AM GROWING AS A PERSON. I was one of those kids in high school who was involved in everything — FFA, BPA, Boys State, Scouts, HOBY, Idaho Top Scholar, honor band, and varsity soccer and basketball.

But most of all, I’ve always been fascinated with plants. That’s why I was drawn to University of Idaho; because their Biological & Agricultural Engineering program is the best around. And with such an incredible diversity of campus activities, student clubs and organizations, I have a great opportunity to meet new people and learn new things. In just my first year, I can’t believe how much I’ve experienced. I live in the Fiji house, I play the trombone in the university marching band and I love intramural sports. The more I do, the more I learn. The more I learn, the more confident I become. I’m not completely sure what I want to do after I graduate, but hopefully my career will be in agriculture — working with plants, and watching them grow.

Q&A

Where are you from?
My hometown is a small little place in South Central Idaho, called Bliss. It’s got a population of 275, so when I say small, I mean it!

What do you plan to do when you graduate?
You had to ask this question, didn’t you? To be honest, I’m not really sure what the future holds for me. I know that I have a lot of interests that pertain to my education — but as long as I’m doing something that has to do with agricultural studies or plants, then I’ll be happy.

How is the University of Idaho helping you to achieve your goals?
For the first time in my life, like many students, I am living on my own and taking care of myself. Not only am I learning how to be an adult, I’m getting a world-class education. I’m meeting new people and it’s helping me branch out and giving me the tools to not just achieve my goals — it’s giving me the inspiration to create them.

Do you have any comments about your program?
The agricultural program at the University of Idaho is top-notch when it comes to academics. My professors are amazing, and I’m learning new things every day — hands-on. That’s what’s important to me, because not only am I learning about things in textbooks and in classes, but I’m getting a chance to get my hands dirty in the field.
