Work-Study

Work-study is a federal and state-funded, need-based financial aid program designed to provide part-time jobs to full-time students. Work-study is awarded to the students showing the most financial need; income earned is taxable.

How do I apply for Work-Study?

  1. Complete the FAFSA ASAP.
  2. Mark "yes" to the question: "Do you want to provide additional information about your enrollment plans?" This will prompt you to check a box if you want to be considered for Work-Study.
  3. If you are awarded "college work-study or Idaho work-study" accept the award on VandalWeb.

What do I do once I accept my Work-Study award?

Work Study job opportunities will not be in VandalWeb anymore; they are only available on Handshake.

You will need to apply for any jobs you are interested in AND interview with the supervisor before being offered the job.

Continuing students — After you accept your work study aid offer, it may be a week before you see work study jobs in Handshake.

Incoming students — You will be able to access Handshake in early June, provided you have registered for classes and accepted your aid offer in VandalWeb.

Please follow the instructions below to set up your account on Handshake.

  1. Login to Handshake
Do this by visiting our Handshake page. Once you're on our school's page, see if you can locate University of Idaho in the dropdown menu. If not, select Sign Up Here in the upper right corner of the page to create a new account.

  2. Upload a document
You'll want to have a public resume available in Handshake for employers (and the Career Services team) to see. To learn more about how to upload a document, refer to How to Upload a New Document.

  3. Fill out your profile
We strongly suggest you take the time to complete this step. Employers will be able to more easily find you and opportunities will be tailored for your interests and degree based on the information you enter.

Handshake is unable to change any of your profile data!

The University of Idaho has partnered with Handshake and some of your information may already be in your Handshake profile (this information would have been provided by the Career Services team with support from the Registrar). Double check all pre-loaded information, especially your major and GPA (if included). If you find any errors, contact the Career Services team to correct it.

You'll need to select your profile privacy level: Community, Employers, or Private. You can read more about these options here.

If you choose Employers or Community privacy level, keep in mind the more information you add to your profile, the easier it will be for employers to find you and make informed decisions about whether you might be a good fit for their job opportunities.

Now you're on your way to efficiently and effectively launching your career!

Take Handshake for a spin. Use the landing page, top search bar, and filters to find departments and jobs you're interested in learning more about or applying to. You can always save your searches in Handshake, making finding relevant employers and jobs easy.

You can follow jobs and employers you're interested in. When you follow an employer or a job, you can filter based on your career interests. You'll also receive alerts when the job application window is closing so you never forget to apply for the jobs you want.
