Sarah D. Baker serves as an associate Extension professor with University of Idaho Extension, where she provides programming focusing on livestock, range management and 4-H youth development in Custer County. She conducts beef cutting demonstrations and educational programming focusing on beef end-product quality for both adults and youth throughout the state and region. Baker also collects carcass data and conducts carcass contests for numerous local, regional and state fairs.

Sarah grew up on her family's cattle ranch on the East Fork of the Salmon River and is the sixth generation to live and work there. She holds a Masters degree in meat science from the University of Idaho. During her time at U of I, she worked as student assistant manager at the university meat laboratory — Vandal Brand Meats, and completed a meat science research assistantship.

Following graduation, she worked for the Idaho Beef Council for over 4 years as the program director where her responsibilities included developing consumer education programs, conducting beef producer communication and check-off awareness programs, and developing retail and food service programs to fulfill the Council's mission of building and maintaining consumer demand for beef.

Baker also holds an associates degree in agricultural business from the College of Southern Idaho and a bachelors of science degree in range livestock management and minor in rangeland ecology and management from U of I.

Growing up in Custer County, where 97 percent of the land mass is managed by the state and federal government, Baker understands the importance of multiple use of these public lands and natural resources, for the economic viability and stability of the county. She is passionate about beef, range and the agricultural heritage of Custer County and Idaho. She serves on numerous boards and organizations and provides leadership on many local, state and national committees. In in spare time, she enjoys fishing, hunting and working on her family's ranch.
