Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) Program—University of Idaho Extension and 4-H Youth Development runs this program funded by the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and the Idaho Beef Council.
BQA Program helps youth understand their role as a producer in the food supply chain and their responsibility to produce a safe food product while caring for animals in an ethical manner. Idaho’s Youth BQA Program is available across the state through workshops that include interactive and hands-on activities that teach important components of BQA. 4-H leaders are also trained to distribute this program across Idaho.
Publications and Video—Youth Beef Quality Assurance Program Manual for the Pacific Northwest (PNW 593) describes all BQA activities in detail including color photographs and diagrams in a 4-color, 56-page workbook (8 l/2 x 11). A 20-minute DVD movie clips featuring Idaho 4-H youth showing their sheep and swine at county fairs and summarize how-to-show-livestock tips. A DVD on showing beef is coming. Find order-form for DVDs at Bingham County's 4-H website.
