Welcome to Envs101 - Introduction to Environmental Science

New Students Start Here This is web-based course that is arranged into 18 topics. Each of the 18 topics covers an important aspect about environmental science. Each of the topics has at least one (sometimes two or three) slide set that is narrated. Each topic also includes a reading assignment from your text and an assignment.

You will have approximately 12 days to complete each unit. There is an overlap of unit availability as a convenience to you. Unit assignments must be submitted through the Blackboard process on time. LATE ASSIGNMENTS ARE NOT ACCEPTED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE!!! You will receive 0 out of 25 points for each missed assignment. If you miss more than 3 assignments, you fail the class. Deadlines are inflexible because of the high number of assignments (18) and large number of students taking this class.

I will grade submissions for a particular assignment at the same time -- usually within 3 days after the assignment due date. You will receive a score and some comments from me via the Blackboard record book.

Before you submit each assignment be sure to type your name on the assignment. Assignments without names will have 10 points deducted from them.

The objectives of this course are:

  • To gain an understanding of the concepts fundamental to environmental science; to understand the complexity of ecosystems and possibly how to sustain them
    .
  • To be exposed to current and controversial environmental issues
    .
  • To understand how social issues and politics impact the environment
