In fiscal year 2009, the Department of Mechanical Engineering had over $1.6M in research expenditures. Faculty members in ME have performed research for the US Departments of Energy, Defense and Transportation, the National Science Foundation, NASA the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and the Idaho National Laboratory. Private companies including Hewlett-Packard, General Atomics and Battelle have also sponsored research projects in the department.
