Project Description:
The main elements of this project will be structural design and site design. Students will be provided with architectural floor plans, elevations, site topography and geotechnical information. Plans will typically be provided in AutoCad format. Students will be responsible for determining framing layout, lateral load design and foundation design for the structure. Students will also design the site grading and drainage, the driveway and a septic system to meet the requirements of the local jurisdiction. Students should contact the county or city where the residence is to be built for design loads, code revisions, building codes that have been adopted, driveway design requirements, and septic system regulations. Some internet research may be required to obtain manufacturers data for typical building materials such as floor joists, metal connectors, septic tanks, etc.
