Ken Reardon is a nationally recognized expert in service learning, civic engagement and collaborative or participatory action research. He has won national awards for the University of Illinois’ highly-regarded East St. Louis Action Research Project, in part because of his careful approach to preparing students for participatory approaches to community problem-solving planning and design. His research interests focus on community-based planning in poor urban neighborhoods, alternative approaches to community development, and municipal government reform.
