Department Chair Welcome
Welcome to the Department of Movement Sciences, where we invite you to join us and discover the value of physical activity and play for a healthy, productive, and sustainable lifestyle. Our approach to activity and play is interdisciplinary and involves all of you - your whole being - permeating your study, your work, and you leisure time. We want to inspire you to develop a healthier you through physical activity and to learn how to take a playful and active spirit to your family, your workplace and your community.
Healthy active living is foundational to our undergraduate programs in dance, excercise science and health, physical education teacher education and recreation. All of our undergraduate students begin their educational journey in our Core Curriculum, where they learn a multidisciplinary approach for inspiring and educating others to adopt healthy active lifestyles using principles of economics, environmental and economic sustainability. Then, they move into their majors and develop specific skills and knowledge to become leaders in their respective professions and adopt a team-based approach to healthy active communities. At the graduate level, our students can choose to study recreation, exercise science, sport pedagogy and character education, or athletic training, where they work side by side with faculty to impact the health of our society through research and community engagement.
