University of Idaho dance majors perform during their first semester at the university. Dance students will also have numerous opportunities to perform throughout their college studies.
Quality performance opportunities are at the center of the University of Idaho dance program. The program offers two main-stage concerts each year, performed in the 400-seat Hartung Theatre on the University of Idaho Moscow campus. Dance majors collaborate with faculty, guest artists and other students to choreograph and dance in the historically sold-out performances.
The University of Idaho's Dance Theatre performs the Fall Dance Concert
annually. The concert is directed by dance faculty Belle Baggs
and features choreography by faculty, students and internationally acclaimed guest artists. Past works have included Bill Evans and the restaging of modern dance pioneer Doris Humphrey.
In the spring, the Center for Dance offers a production in collaboration with the Lionel Hampton School of Music titled Dancers Drummers Dreamers.
This unique production features dance performed to original, live music composed by the music faculty and students. Dancers Drummers Dreamers sells out quickly every year.
Each year, the Center offers Dance Off Hand
, a concert series sponsored by our Dance Majors and Minors Club featuring student choreography, and the Senior Concert series, directed by senior dance majors. Student concerts are performed in our renovated Studio 110, a 120-seat theatre in the Physical Education Building.
The Center for Dance travels each year to the American College Dance Festival, which has featured pieces from the U-Idaho Dance Program for the last 4 years.
