Scholarships

In addition to Federal Student Aid through the University of Idaho, students are eligible for scholarships within the Department of Movement Sciences. Fill out the application form and mark the scholarships for which you would like to apply. Scholarships will be awarded to students based on merit and need. Please contact the Department of Movement Sciences if you have any questions about the scholarship application process.

  • Bill and Diane Stoneman Scholarship
    Financial need: Not Required
    Required Class Levels: FR SO JR SR
    Required GPA: 2.50
    Required Major: Any major in Movement Sciences
    Other Requirements and/or considerations: Academic achievement primary consideration; financial need secondary consideration; applicant should show dedication through campus involvement.
  • Bonnie Hulstrand Scholarship
    Financial need: Not required
    Required Class Levels: SO, JR, SR with one semester of completion in PE major
    Required G.P.A.: 2.0 Good academic standing required.
    Required Major: Physical Education Major
    Other Requirements and/or considerations: Preference given to female Idaho residents with good character, leadership skills, and movement skills.
  • Cal Lathen, Recreation Scholarship
    Financial need: Not Required
    Required Class Levels: SO JR SR
    Required GPA: Academic achievement will have primary consideration.
    Required Major: Recreation
    Other Requirements and/or considerations: Recipients must be undergraduate, rec majors who have sophomore standing or above. GPA considered; Involvement in Recreation and Leisure.

  • Dance Activities Scholarship
    Financial need: Not Required
    Required Class Levels: SO JR SR
    Required GPA: 2.50
    Required Major: College of Education
    Other Requirements and/or considerations: Open to continuing, full-time students who have attended UI for at least one prior semester. Recipient must have activities in the dance area and show a consistent and ongoing participation in the UI dance program resulting in observable products such as performance, teaching, choreography and production leadership. Preference will be given to students who have a history of enrollment in both dance theory and technique classes. One half of the scholarship will be awarded first semester and one-half second semester. Recipients must be enrolled in at least 2 dance classes (excluding fitness dance) for each semester in which the scholarship is available. The scholarship may be awarded more than once.
  • Edith Betts Graduate Physical Education Scholarship
    Financial need: Not required
    Required Class Levels: GRAD
    Required G.P.A.: 2.0, academic achievement will be considered.
    Required Major: Physical Education
    Other Requirements and/or considerations: Open to full-time grad students who show academic achievement and promise in the profession of PE and Sport, and show sound social values.

    Financial need: Not required
    Required Class Levels: FR SO JR SR
    Required G.P.A.: Academic achievement will have primary consideration.
    Required Major: Any major in Movement Sciences

  • Eric Kirkland Scholarship
    Financial need: Not required
    Required Class Levels: JR SR
    Required G.P.A.: 3.00
    Required Major: Recreation
    Other Requirements and/or considerations: Students who have graduated from an Idaho high school shall be given first preference. Applicants should display good moral character and high ethical standards. Applicants who submit at least two letters of recommendation referring to these values will be given preference.
  • H. James Marshall Scholarship
    Financial need: Not required
    Required Class Levels: All
    Required G.P.A.: Academic achievement will be considered.
    Required Major: Full-time Dance Majors
    Other Requirements and/or considerations: Preference given to graduates of small Idaho high schools and Idaho residents.
  • Janice Cowan, Movement Science Scholarship
    Financial need: Required
    Required Class Levels: FR SO JR SR
    Required GPA: 2.0 Academic achievements to be considered.
    Required Major: Movement Sciences
    Other Requirements and/or considerations: Full-time undergrads in Movement Sciences are eligible with preference to dance majors. Financial need is primary consideration, academic achievement also to be considered.
  • Katy Rae Boyer Scholarship
    Financial need: Not Required
    Required Class Levels: JR SR GRAD and in the program at UI for at least one year
    Required GPA: 2.50
    Required Major: Physical Education, Athletic Training, ESH
    Other Requirements and/or considerations: Women's P.E. major or promising women’s golfer (have played in 3 or 4 tournaments). Student should have recommendations from at least two professionals assessing the student’s potential as a future teacher, coach, or player. The student should show a concern for her fellow players or her students as the case may be, and should exemplify the highest standards of women’s sports and/or teaching.
  • Leon Green (Father of Idaho Recreation) Scholarship
    Financial need: Not required
    Required Class Levels: FR SO JR SR GRAD
    Required G.P.A.: Demonstrated academic achievement will have preference.
    Required Major: Any major in Movement Sciences
    Other Requirements and/or considerations: Graduated from an Idaho high school or can display an Idaho residency commitment (other than as a student), upper class students (with 64 credits or more) will have preference. Recreation majors or students with a career orientation towards leisure and life-style enhancement will have preference. Students with involvement in professional activities will have preference, including university, professional employment, service/volunteerism, and affiliation with professional organizations or agencies

  • Recreation Student Organization Scholarship (RSO)
    Financial need: Not Required
    Required Class Levels: JR SR (seniors must have one or more semesters remaining)
    Required G.P.A.: 2.5
    Required Major: Recreation
    Other Requirements: Full time student (12 or more credits/semester). Applicant must be an active member of the Recreation Club. 90 credits must be completed by the time the scholarship is awarded. Involvement in campus activities will be considered.
    Application procedure for this scholarship: Prepare a typed resume which address the criteria listed. The selection committee will interview each candidate to make a decision.
  • Shane Dines Memorial Physical Education Scholarship
    Financial need: Required
    Required Class Levels: FR SO JR SR
    Required G.P.A.: 3.00
    Required Major: Physical Education Teacher Education
    Other Requirements and/or considerations: Idaho resident, first consideration will go to new freshmen from Owyhee or Latah County, then rural Idaho, then Idaho. Students will show dedication to their education through campus involvement. Financial need is the primary consideration, with academic achievement secondary.
