Policies

Circulation
The IMTC requires a Vandal Card to check out materials to UI affiliates. Patrons not affiliated with the University, can use a “guest card” issued by UI or use a VALNet, CIN, or other library card issued by a WIN Library (Washington Idaho Network).

IMTC circulation periods are as follows for all patrons:

Checkout length Materials Renewals Allowed
1 month Regular IMTC materials including all print curriculum, children’s literature, special collections, and the North Idaho Regional Special Education Library 2 Renewals
1 week Journals 2 Renewals
3 days Counseling and special education assessments Renewals by arrangement
1 day All media equipment Renewals by arrangement
In library use only Some reference and reserve materials, as well as electronic curriculum items N/A
Various Checkout Periods Reserve materials checkout according to faculty specification Varies by arrangement

Fines
The IMTC does not charge fines for items that become overdue and are returned. When materials become three months overdue the full cost of the item is charged to the patron along with a $10 fee. If the materials are returned without a bill being sent, all fines and fees will be waived. If a bill is sent and the materials are returned, the $10 fee will remain. If materials are not returned, the charges will remain and a stop will be placed on the student’s account.

The library user is responsible for returning library materials on or before the due date. As a courtesy, the IMTC sends overdue notices via current and functioning email addresses. Failure to receive an overdue notice does not release an individual from the obligation to return materials on or before the due date, or to pay fees incurred due to non-return.

Requests and Returns
Materials housed in the IMTC can be requested through the UI Libraries Voyager online catalog. Materials will be sent through the WIN courier system for pickup at the library selected by the patron. IMTC materials can be returned at any WIN library, and any WIN library item can be returned to the IMTC.

Reserves
Faculty may place materials on reserve in the IMTC. Materials for reserve may be faculty owned or materials from the IMTC collection. Materials from the ITMC collection will be removed from reserve after the semester of use. It is recommended that faculty use the UI Libraries electronic reserve service (Jesse Thomas, 885-6495) if they have articles or books chapters to be placed on reserve.

Media Equipment
Media items located in the Instructional Materials and Technology Center (IMTC) are available for free check out to College of Education faculty, staff and students, as well as the wider university community. Most items checkout overnight, but may also be checked out to accommodate individual need. Making advance reservations to use media items is highly recommended. Reservations will be adhered to, except in the case of a shortage of the reserved item and a scheduling conflict, in which faculty needs will be given preference.

Exceptions to media checkout privileges are: 1) media carts will be for faculty checkout only, 2) extended checkout (beyond overnight) of computers, projectors, digital cameras, and document cameras will be offered on a regular basis to faculty and graduate students only; undergraduate students will be encouraged to use media services for extended borrowing, and will be accommodated only in the case of extenuating circumstances.

Students must show a picture ID to check out media items. The signature of the person picking up/checking out media items is also required. Signing acknowledges receipt of and full responsibility for returning items to the College of Education IMTC. Replacement of the item is required if it is not returned, or if it is returned damaged.

Use of all media equipment must be in accordance with the State of Idaho and University of Idaho computer use policy available at the UI Information Technology Web site.

Food and Drink
Food and drink are allowed in the IMTC under the assumption that patrons will clean up after themselves and will use caution and respect in regards to computer equipment, the general facilities and fellow patrons.

Cell Phones
All patrons are asked to take and make cell phone calls outside the IMTC. An exception can be afforded if a patron is in contact with technical support and needs to remain at a computer terminal.

Space
The IMTC is a space for working; it is not necessarily a good place for silent study. While the IMTC does have quiet times during the day, students working on group assignments or projects have priority in the space. Groups will also be asked to respect others as they work.
