Carmen Suarez, Ph.D.
The Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) & Associate Vice Provost (AVP) is the senior executive responsible for facilitating the achievement of the campus’ strategic plan diversity goals.
Dr. Suarez provides leadership for efforts to build and retain a diverse faculty, staff and student body and an inclusive university environment that values and respects the contributions of all members of the community.
She oversees administrative and student affairs offices and programs central to access, inclusion and continuous improvement of culture and climate. In addition, she serves as liaison and develops partnerships with the surrounding communities of Moscow, the state, the region and the nation.
The CDO/AVP is the University of Idaho Affirmative Action Officer, Title IX Coordinator and ADA Coordinator, ensuring in collaboration with the President, Vice Presidents and other executive leadership the effective and successful implementation of the Affirmative Action Plan and compliance with both the intent and the spirit of equal employment and educational opportunity, non-discrimination and affirmative action federal and state laws and regulations.
The CDO/AVP provides leadership and administrative oversight for the Division of Diversity and Human Rights, which includes the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA), Women’s Center, Office of LGBTQA Programs, College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP), Native American Student Center (NASC) and the office of Human Rights, Access and Inclusion (HRAI). The CDO/AVP is a member of the President’s Executive Leadership Council, the President’s Cabinet, Provost Council and Student Affairs Leadership Team.
