Blending the study of engineering with biology, chemistry and math, this program prepares you to solve engineering and technological management problems in agriculture, environment, biotechnology and natural resources.
You will learn to design components, systems and processes for areas like food production, soil and water management, pollution control, and energy production.
Much of your education will take place in the lab, where you could experiment with the natural cycle of water in watersheds, monitor streams and water quality, use GIS technologies, design instruments to measure biological functions, examine interactions between different types of organisms, or explore how microbes break down hazardous waste.
Students have opportunities to apply their learning to real-world industry problems. For example, you might research how to turn French fry cooking oil into biodiesel for the J. R. Simplot Company, or design a better conveyor belt for a manufacturing company.
