Body Positive Week

Body Positive Week is dedicated to promoting healthy body image and self-esteem. Because a negative body image contributes to disordered eating, this week raises awareness about how to maintain a positive body image no matter your size.

2016 Keynote Speaker Amy Pence-Brown

With her message of all bodies are good bodies no matter their size, Pence-Brown's viral video captured national attention. "A Stand for Self-Love" will explore the courage of radical self-acceptance and how to promote a positive body image. Learn more »

What is Body Positive Week?

Formerly recognized as National Eating Disorders Awareness Week on our campus, Body Positive Week is a collaboration between Vandal Nutrition, Vandal Health Education, and the Women's Center. Events are geared toward exploring beauty ideals and body image, eating disorder awareness, and campus resources. The mission of Body Positive Week is to ultimately prevent body image issues while reducing the stigma surrounding eating disorders and improving access to treatment. Eating disorders are serious, life-threatening illnesses - not choices - and it's important to recognize the pressures, attitudes and behaviors that shape the disorder.

This year, we urge you talk about the pressures, attitudes and behaviors that shape body image and disordered eating with family, friends and your community. Your participation:

  • Raises awareness that eating disorders are life-threatening illnesses, not lifestyle choices
  • Provides accurate information to educational and medical communities
  • Directs people to potentially life-saving information and resources about eating disorders
