Scholarships & Awards

The Diversity & Human Rights Unit has established a Diversity Scholarship Committee to distribute the majority of diversity scholarships for the University of Idaho.

The Diversity Scholars Program provides academic, cultural, social assistance to recipients of any of the diversity scholarships, focusing on our first year multicultural students and returning undergraduate. We partner with many programs and services across campus to give our students a good foundation of university support services, planning workshops, and socials to connect them to campus life.

Only United States citizens and permanent residents are eligible for OMA scholarships. If you are an international student, contact the International Programs Office at (208) 885-8984.

New Students

There are no separate scholarship applications for first-year students at UI. To be automatically considered, students simply apply for admission and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by Feb. 15. Priority is given to students that demonstrate high financial need with a history of academic excellence.

Returning Students

There are no separate scholarship applications for returning students at UI. To be automatically considered, students simply submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by Feb. 15. Priority is given to students that demonstrate high financial need with a history of academic excellence.

Awarding Process

Students are considered for financial aid and scholarship awards during three sessions each year. Again, it’s important for students to submit appropriate materials by the priority deadline of Feb. 15.

  • Spring – Scholarships are distributed late February/early March as part of upcoming fall semester financial aid packages. Incoming freshmen attending UIdaho Bound will receive notification of awards received during the event.  Students being considered for the diversity scholars program will receive a phone call from the OMA staff to verify their participation in the program.
  • Summer – A second round of scholarships are awarded during the summer. Students are notified of awards received through VandalMail.  Students being considered for the diversity scholars program will receive a phone call from the OMA staff to verify their participation in the program.
  • Fall  – In the event there are any remaining scholarship funds, residual financial aid from spring semester is re-awarded to students before the start of the fall semester. Students being considered for the diversity scholars program will receive a phone call from the OMA staff to verify their participation in the program. Students are notified through VandalMail.
