Pre-Health Focus: Pre-Med
Hometown: Twin Falls, Idaho
Hobbies/Extracurricular Activities: Fraternity (Theta Chi), Hiking/Camping/Backpacking, CrossFit, Cooking
Initial Interest: Not to sound cliché, but it all came from my first biology class I took. From there it branched off into anatomy and my fascination with health and the mechanics of the human body. After taking in all considerations, I decided I wanted to be a physician and went all in.
Experience Highlights: I am currently volunteering in the Emergency Department at Gritman, which is exciting and reinforces my love for medicine. I have also job shadowed a general practitioner and an ophthalmologist to explore my options in specialization because I still don't know what I want to specialize in (which is OKAY!).
Advice for new Pre-Health Students: If you are looking into the peer mentor program, you are already heading in the right direction. I have found that the path to med school is unique to every individual student, but it helps to seek advice from those who have already experienced it. As for advice, I would say don't get discouraged. Not every step along the way will be an easy one, and it’s so easy to just say, "Oh that was too hard, maybe this isn't for me." If you stay positive and determined to reach the end goal, you will find a way and you will be successful.
