The Counseling & Testing Center (CTC) agrees to abide by the APPIC policy that no person at this training facility will solicit, accept or use any ranking-related information from any intern applicant. Adherence to these policies is a condition of membership in APPIC and of participation in the APPIC Match and/or Post-Match Vacancy Service.
The CTC follows all university procedures when recruiting, screening and interviewing candidates for an open internship position. Diversity is an important consideration during the internship application screening process. We consider the applicant’s experience with diverse populations and his or her knowledge and training as it relates to multicultural counseling competencies, and the extent to which the applicant contributes to the diversity of the potential intern cohort. We welcome interns from diverse backgrounds and in no way restrict access for diversity applicants.
- Completion of a minimum of 475 total Intervention hours by the start of internship.
- Completion of a minimum of 50 total Assessment hours by the start of internship.
- Completion of a minimum of 100 individual counseling hours with adults by the start of internship.
- Experience with diverse populations, and sensitivity and responsiveness to individual diversity and cultural factors in delivering psychological services.
- Basic competency with psychological assessment and writing integrated assessment reports. Previous experience with the WAIS is required.
- Completion of all formal coursework for the doctoral degree and completion of comprehensive exams or their equivalent by the start of internship.
- Approval of dissertation proposal by the start of the internship.
Prior experience is an asset but not required.
- Experience at a university or college counseling center
- Supervision of counselor trainees
- Outreach, teaching or public speaking experience
- Familiarity with motivational interviewing and/or harm-reduction approaches to alcohol and drug use in the college population
Applications must be submitted electronically through the APPIC/AAPI portal. All materials must be available for review online by Dec. 1, 2015. To be considered, applicants must:
- Follow directions for submitting APPI online. Be sure to upload graduate transcripts and a current vitae.
- Explain why you believe you would be a good fit with the internship program in your cover letter. Be specific about goals and how the program will help you meet them.
- Submit three letters of reference with at least two from licensed psychologists who have supervised your clinical work. References should reflect your most recent work, if possible. Submitted letters must use the standardized reference form from the AAPIC.
Each application is thoroughly reviewed by the selection committee. Applicants are rated on the basis of their background information, stated goals for internship and whether they meet minimum qualifications. We emphasize fit between intern goals and site opportunities in our selection process. Applicants who are determined to most closely match the availability of training options will be asked to participate in a standardized Skype (preferred) or telephone interview.

Following a review of completed applications by the selection committee, applicants will be notified if they are still under consideration. Finalists will be scheduled for a Skype or telephone interview in December and January. All other candidates will receive email notification indicating they are no longer being considered.
