Former President Duane Nellis challenged the University of Idaho in September 2010 to become fully sustainable, with a zero carbon footprint by 2030. Facilitated by the Sustainability Center, many committees and a multitude of working groups work to institutionalizing sustainable practices at U-Idaho through policy, infrastructure and campus culture change.
Overview of committee structure:
Food Systems: this committee will oversee the establishment and implementation of food systems goals and objectives with an emphasis on integrating fresh, healthy locally-grown food into the university and strengthening the regional food shed.
Earth Week Planning Committee: this committee meets once bi-monthly or weekly as needed to develop, organize and market all of the events put on campus for Earth Week. To participate in this committee email our Event Coordinator at uisc-events@uidaho.edu.
- Committees collaborate with and support groups and university departments to create a sustainable campus. Representation is broad and includes: administration, faculty, staff, students, and community members.
- Committees meet 2-4 times per year, and often form smaller working groups which meet frequently to achieve specific goals and objectives.
