Three University Wide Programs for UI Students

Environmental Science Program

The Environmental Science Program (EnvS) provides you with a comprehensive education in the hows and whys of environmental problems and ways of solving those problems. Doing so requires integration information from many relevant disciplines such as biology, chemistry, ecology, economics, engineering, geography, hydrology, soil science, philosophy, physics, political science, and sociology. This makes the Environmental Science program interdisciplinary. You can make a difference in tomorrow’s world by pursuing a degree in Environmental Science, a field with relevance today and into the future. Learn more about the Environmental Science Program.

Water Resources Program

The Water Resources Program (WR) offers a rigorous course of study, research, networking and community involvement to create the leaders and experts needed to solve emerging, monumentally complex water issues. Students receive deep knowledge in their chosen disciplines along with training in how to 1) communicate with professionals from other disciplines to find creative solutions, 2) engage in collaborative research that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries, 3) interact with stakeholders and communities to gain understanding of attitudes and norms, support, and trust. Learn more about the Water Resources Program.

The Water Resources Program includes a research and outreach initiative, Waters of the West (WoW), led by nine WR faculty. WoW works off-campus to help communities reach solutions to their water basin problems. Its method is to deploy an interdisciplinary team of WR faculty and students to perform an integrated analysis of a water basin. Learn more about WoW.

Professional Science Masters Program in Environmental Science and Natural Resources

The Professional Science Masters Program (PSM) offers a non-thesis degree that prepares individuals for employment in industry, agencies, NGOS, or small business. The training program goes beyond the science to teach management, communication skills, and ethics. As we have learned from industry leaders, this program emphasizes the skills that employers teach on the job, giving our graduates a head start. Graduates of the program will have advanced scientific skills and will be able to work effectively with business and industry. Learn more about the Professional Science Masters Program.
