Dr. Kim Winkelman (Oglala Lakota and Abenaki) is a retired Army lieutenant colonel. In 22 years of military service, he earned several military merit awards. He earned a bachelor’s degree from The Citadel, a master’s from the Monterey Institute of International Studies in California, and his doctorate from Walden University. Winkelman is credited with spearheading a movement to create Comanche Nation College, against great odds from local and state governments.
