The University of Idaho College of Graduate Studies offers a wealth of academic resources strategically coordinated to bring out the best in you.


The quality and vision of our program has contributed to a legacy of successful outcomes for over a century. Since our inception in 1894, 75,501 Bachelor's, 20,162 Master's, 230 Honorary, 1,022 Specialist, 3,361 J.D., and 2,470 Doctoral degrees have been awarded.


Our exciting, rigorous academic environment currently offers graduate degrees from 47 departments and attracts students from all 44 Idaho counties, all 50 states and more than 90 countries.

For the fifth straight year, our grants, contracts and research appropriations have exceeded $100 million.


State-of-the-art facilities

As the state’s principal research and Ph.D.–granting institution, we have the state's largest library, with more than 2.5 million books, periodicals, government documents and special collections.


In addition to a wireless campus network, we have more than 1,000 computers and computer workstations conveniently located in 22 different computer labs spread across campus, offering students full access to the university’s high-speed network and extensive online resources.


A state-of-the-art Writing Center helps individuals improve their writing skills and assists students in planning and revising written assignments. And the Tutoring and Academic Assistance Program, available to all, offers free tutoring in a variety of subjects.

A strong collaborative spirit and a willingness to innovate have led the College of Graduate Studies to launch a number of exciting, new initiatives. The strong new interdisciplinary approach pioneered by Dean Margrit von Braun has resulted in several new disciplines, such as bioinformatics, neuroscience and environmental science, while traditional disciplines, such as political science and English, have developed new specialty areas.
