University of Idaho: The optimal location for studying natural resources

Moscow, Idaho is a quintessential college town that is truly an outdoor enthusiast's dream and is the perfect place for studying natural resources. Settled between Moscow Mountain and the rolling hills of the Palouse, Moscow's natural surroundings provide an international hub for environmental, ecological and agricultural research. The surrounding area is primarily agricultural (wheat, canola, peas, lentils and barley), but there are also many wilderness and recreational areas in close proximity.

In addition to its many natural attributes, Moscow also has a well established sense of community that is centered around its renovated downtown area. There is a farmers' market downtown every Saturday from May through October. The larger mall and downtown area are within easy walking distance of the campus.

There are about 20,000 permanent residents of Moscow, and each fall about 10,000 students enroll. Washington State University is eight miles away and a bus (free to full-time students) connects the two communities for some joint classes.

The Chipman Trail is a paved trail that connects these two towns for the use of hikers, rollerbladers and bikers. Every fall, the free Latah County Fair with 4-H and FFA projects, carnival rides, local entertainment, booths, and lots of food, is a welcomed event in the area.

For married students with small children, there are lots of activities within a few minutes of home and school for their participation and enjoyment, including parks, an active Parks and Recreation program, a large water park, a skateboard park, an ice skating rink, as well as other after-school activities.
