Giving Back to Our Community

National Make a Difference Day 2011
The McCall Outdoor Science School (MOSS) teamed up with the Central Idaho Mountain Bike Association (CIMBA) and Jug Mountain Ranch to create fun and accessible mountain biking trails for next season.

On October 23, Jug Mountain Ranch Golf Club’s David Carey and fourteen MOSS graduate student AmeriCorps members hosted a volunteer day for community members. The goal was for members of the community to come out and support each other’s recreational needs by digging and building new mountain bike trails as well as cleaning up existing trails.

On that rainy and cold Saturday there were 20 volunteers and others working together to make the trails at Jug Mountain Ranch more accessible for mountain bikers. The volunteers, with the help of seasoned trail builders, identified areas of trouble and created a biking trail from start to finish.  In the spring some of the volunteers hope to return to Jug Mountain Ranch not only to use the trails but also do some maintenance on the on they built.

Thank you to David Carey and Jug Mountain Ranch, Alana Erickson of CIMBA, Ruperts of McCall for providing lunch, and all of our volunteers and trail building experts.

A Few Simple Tips...
How do you decrease your energy bill and help the environment at the same time?

Follow these simple steps:

  1. Turn your water heater down to 120°F.
  2. Turn off the lights and unplug all electronics when not in use.
  3. Close curtains or blinds at night.
  4. Do not block the registers. Move furniture away from baseboard heat.
  5. Fill all the gaps. Weather-strip doors and caulk windows.
