Research Projects
University of Idaho Park Studies Unit - a branch of the National Park Service Social Science Program that has operated since 1979. This project currently conducts two types of surveys in units of the National Park System:
- in-depth Visitor Services Project (VSP) visitor studies in requesting parks in one or more seasons
- a customer satisfaction card (Visitor Survey Card Project or VSC) is conducted in all parks that have visitors every year to meet Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA) requirements.
Outreach Projects
- The Building Sustainable Communities Initiative includes an outreach program called Learning and Practice Collaboratives (LPCs). The LPCs serve as a vehicle for the University of Idaho to assist communities in fulfilling their visions for sustainable growth. LPCs bring together faculty and students with Idaho communities and tribes to work together to improve quality of life and build sustainable futures. The LPCs bring to communities research-based knowledge and problem-solving expertise related to bioregional planning and sustainable design principles. Students and faculty work in communities as co-learners engaged in participatory research and service learning projects.
- The mission of the McCall Outdoor Science School (MOSS) is to use the outdoors as an integrating context for learning about science, place, and community. MOSS includes an innovative K-12 residential environmental science education program, a graduate residency program for 20 graduate students, and a community education outreach program.
