DEAN, COLLEGE OF NATURAL RESOURCES

Dean's Message

Welcome to the University of Idaho College of Natural Resources! I’m thrilled to report a lot of exciting things are happening in our college. And as the recently appointed dean, I am truly honored to be a part of this premier program that has a strong legacy of success and an even brighter future ahead.

Our college is passionate about benefiting the outside world through our expertise in natural resource science. Our ultimate goal is to provide leadership for the understanding and stewardship of natural resources.

Much of our success comes from the commitment of our 50 research and teaching faculty, who are known around the world for their important work in natural resources. They are also revered for their excellent teaching and dedication to students.

Our college consists of five academic departments, and we offer nine undergraduate majors along with six master's and doctoral degree programs. As natural resources issues continue to become the cornerstone of our public discourse — from policy and business to research and discovery — we strive to provide vital leadership and accessible educational curricula that can be readily applied in the real world.

Our residential campus location, nestled between Moscow mountain and the beautiful hills of the Palouse, fosters a one-of-a-kind, hands-on learning environment. Through field trips and outdoor labs, you’ll be challenged to apply the fundamentals of your science-based education to our most pressing natural resource concerns.

Our research and lab facilities on campus are also second to none. In fact, our college manages one of the largest DNA and genetics laboratories in the nation, devoted to collecting critical scientific data for wild populations of plants and animals. We are also home to 15 research units, 10,300 acres of experimental forest and Taylor Wilderness Research Station, a remote wilderness field research and experiential learning facility.

I invite you to join our college and become part of the legacy of the University of Idaho leadership in natural resources, where we are breaking new ground in the areas of forest fire management, ecology and conservation biology, policy analysis and much more.
