I have written to the organizing committee enquiring about this and after several exchanges of information they have agreed that there should be an official WWW site for the Rugby World Cup.
The official World Cup WWW site will be run by Exinet and ITST in South Africa in conjunction with Unisys (through their South African representive, Unidata) , who are the official computer supplier. ITST is providing the project management and Exinet will be responsible for the design and production of web pages. All text and graphics will actually come from the IRFB and Unidata.
The site may be mirrored by IRIC in Ottawa, Canada. (IRIC are also compiling a WWW database for the IRFB.) There may also be mirror sites in Australia and the UK. Details will be made available when the sites are operational. (The official web providers apparently can't publish anything without the permission of both the IRFB and Unisys so they must await clearance before coming on-line.)
Tony Jebson will also be running an unofficial WC server.
A mailing list for WC results has also been set up. Instructions for subscribing to the list may be found here.
NOTE: I do not intend to attempt to run an up to the minute WC site myself. I am poorly located to do this and have to admit that I have higher priorities in my life at present. (What could be more important than rugby you ask? Well my job is under threat.) You will though be able to access everything available on the WC from this site.
