The International Provincial Competition (IPC) involves territorial sides from South Africa (4), Australia (3) and New Zealand (5). It replaces the former Super 10 competition. This year's competition will be a 66-game round robin with the top four teams playing in a knock-out final series (top team versus fourth placed, second versus third).
A win is worth 4 points and there is a bonus point if a team scores 4 tries or loses by less than 7 points.

Selected on basis of 1995 Currie Cup standings:
Natal, Western Province, Northern Transvaal and Transvaal.
New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and Queensland.
The ACT team (called the Brumbies) is going to be a sort of composite team. There will be players who are fringe NSW & Qld players playing for them, eg David Knox, who will after playing IPC super 12 will then go back and play club football for Randwick. They have also signed up the Argentinian prop Carlos(?) Noriega and I think also Ewan McKenzie is going to play for them. Along with Australia B hooker Mark Caputo, they will have a pretty good front row!! Gregan will be half and the side will otherwise be the Camberra Kookaburra's side which made it to the Sydney Rugby Grand Final last season. Coached by former Warringah coach & NSW coach Ross MacQueen. (Info from Michael Carse.)
Regional selections based on the provinces:
Canterbury, Otago, Wellington, Auckland and Waikato.
