Rugby Songs and Jokes

For the homesick kiwi: Most of the following could be considered a little ribald. Read at your own risk! (Provided by popular demand only --- and by contributors who shall remain nameless.)

For more songs, there is a very interesting searchable digital database of traditional folk songs. Several thousand songs may be found there including many of the above. Quite a few come with music score and/or audio versions. Read the information they provide on Searching Digital Tradition. A simple search on the word "hitler" would, for example, show the song found above as well as a few other interesting songs. A perusal of the Keywords List reveals songs under several titillating items. Rugby songs being what they are, you might particularly like to take at a look under the item "bawdy".

There is also a nice and very extensive collection of on-line songs from the Pikes Peak Hash House Harriers and Harriettes in the Springs Harrier Information & Trash pages.

If the above doesn't satisfy your appetite there is a paperback called "Why was he born so beautiful ... and other rugby songs" published 1967 by Sphere Books, London. No author, but the copyright is by Harry Morgan and the preface by Michael Green (author of "The Art of Coarse Rugby"). There's also a 500-page book called "The Limerick", edited by G. Legman, Bell Publishing, New York, 1964 & 1969. It has over 1700 limericks.
