Sources of rugby videos

The best source is to get someone from overseas to send you videos. However, they will usually be in PAL format whereas US TVs use NTSC. There are places that will convert for you for a fee. Alternatively you can invest in a fancy "multi-system" video player that can show both.

Commercial suppliers of rugby videos include the major rugby suppliers and the following:

Ordering information for SA rugby videos 1994/04/11
----------------------------------------

The South African Broadcasting Corporation keep a stock of "standard"
highlights tapes available, but, on request and at extra cost, can
provide tapes of full matches that have been played over the last few
years. The video standard in SA is PAL, but the SABC can provide
NTSC tapes for US customers.

The "standard" titles are:

 o Super-10 Highlights (1993)
o The Lions Share (highlights of Transvaal rugby in 1993)
o 101 Tryline Tales (local stuff)
 o Springbok Greats
 o The First Century (documentary)
o Curry Cup Finals, 1980-1990 (highlights)
o Battle of the Giants (1986 Cavaliers Tour)
o Springbok vs All Black highlights
o Springbok Saga, the modern era (in Afrikaans)

Pricing information on these tapes is as follows:

 Local - R74-10
UK - 20 pounds approx (includes postage)
USA - R180-00 approx (includes postage and conversion to NTSC format)
         (that'll be about $55-00)

It is apparently possible to extract from their archives any full match
from the last couple of years and transfer it onto a tape. This one
time operation is expensive, and the approximate prices are:

 Local - R234-00
 UK - on request
 USA - on request

The cost will come down if multiple copies are ordered.

Unfortunately, the SABC do not have email access, but you can get more
information, or order, from:

     Safritel
     Private Bag X1
     Auckland Park
