Drawing and Drafting for Theatre
Stephanie Miller joined the faculty at the University of Idaho in the spring of 2002. As an associate professor of theatre she is the resident scenic designer for the Department and head of the design area. Previously, Stephanie was an Assistant Professor of Theatre at the University of Pittsburgh and she has designed scenery professionally for productions on both the East and West coasts. She has been a frequent contributor to Idaho Repertory Theatre and Company of Fools in Idaho. In 2003, she was the recipient of an award for Outstanding Teaching Artist at the regional American College Theatre Festival and was invited to participate in a master class with legendary designer Ming Cho Lee at the Kennedy Center.
Some of her favorite productions include Les Liaisons Dangereus at the University of Idaho, Comedy of Errors for Idaho Repertory Theatre, Death and the Maiden for Company of Fools, Passion for Starlight Productions in Pittsburgh and Clytemnestra for Pittsburgh Repertory Theatre.
At UI, Stephanie teaches courses in Scene Design, Advanced Scene Design, Scene Painting and Scenographic Techniques as well as individual and directed studies at the graduate and undergraduate level. One of the skills she is particularly proud of is her ability to successfully transition students from classroom design projects to fully realized productions on stage. Her scenic design students have received many awards for their creative efforts during her stay at the UI including four National Finalists to the ACTF design competitions at Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Former students of hers have moved into excellent positions in professional venues including the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Company of Fools, while others have received academic appointments at Washington University, Illinois State University, Oberlin College and Fordham University.
Stephanie received her B.S. in Art from Portland State University and her M.F.A. from the University of Idaho.
