The Theater Arts Department's fall production, Welcome Home, Jenny Sutter by Julie Marie Myatt, has been selected to compete at the Region VII Kennedy Center/ American College Theater Festival. The play was one of 173 plays submitted to the competition. Only four were selected. The set, cast, crew and about 30 other theatre students will travel to the festival held in Sacramento, Calif., Feb. 18-22. Created in 1969, the festival recognizes and encourages quality theatre at the university level.
“When student work is recognized at this level ... it’s one of the best ways for us to know students are truly learning the skills they need to learn in order to be competitive in one of the most highly competitive fields one can choose to work in,” said Rob Caisley, UI associate professor and director of the play.
In preparation for the upcoming tour, UI Theatre will be offering a benefit performance to help cover the costs of students' festival attendance. Tickets are available at the door for $15 general admission and $10 for UI faculty and staff. Admission is free for veterans and UI students.
