Psychology Undergraduate Program Awards
The Department gives the following awards to approximately five undergraduate Psychology majors each year.
Butch Boyer Award
The Butch Boyer Award is awarded each year to approximately four undergraduates. Each recipient will receive up to $1,000 (the exact amount depends on available funds). The award was originated and funded by Dr. Boyer, formerly a professor of psychology at the University of Idaho.
Students eligible for the award must:
- have Junior or Senior standing (as of the Fall of the year in which the award is being given)
- be majoring in psychology
- have a GPA of at least 3.3
- have been born in Idaho
There is no application process; our scholarship office automatically provides us with the information for all eligible students.
Phil Mohan Award
The Phil Mohan Award for Academic Excellence is awarded to one undergraduate each year. The award was initiated in honor of Dr. Mohan, Emeritus Professor of Psychology.
Students eligible for the award must:
- have Junior or Senior standing (as of the Fall of the year in which the award is being given)
- be majoring in psychology
- have a GPA of at least 3.5
- have been actively involved in psychology research
Each recipient will receive up to $350. Each year, interested eligible students may apply by submitting (by March 10) a brief letter of application, a resume, and a current transcript to Dr. Kenneth Locke, Department of Psychology and Communication Studies, University of Idaho, Moscow ID 83844-3043. Applicants also must have a letter of support submitted from a faculty member with whom they have been actively involved in empirical research.
Recipients for both awards are typically announced late in the Spring semester. The Butch Boyer Award is distributed during the following academic year. The Phil Mohan Award is distributed immediately.
