National Board of Certified Counselors

Requirements:
Must be a National Certified Counselor (NCC) or in the application process

Required: 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours), or 500 contact hours of continuing education
All courses must be for graduate credit Group and/or family counseling 2 courses on addictions covering:

• General Drug Terminology
• Specific Drug Information
• Theories of Addiction
• Medical and Psychological Aspects Assessment
• Treatment
• Special Issues

Three years of supervised experience at no less that 20 hours/week References

• Two assessments
  • One from a supervisor
  • One from a colleague/counseling professional Pass Examination for Master Addictions Counselors (EMAC)
