    Gain Insight

    Welcome!

Department of Philosophy

The pursuit of wisdom and truth is one of the oldest and most abiding human intellectual endeavors. A central discipline of the humanities, the study of Philosophy encourages individuals to become ethical, thoughtful and contributing members of society.

The Philosophy Department at the University of Idaho offers a variety of academic opportunities for its students. Students of philosophy are able to chose from a wide range of courses in the traditional core areas of philosophy - ethics, political philosophy, metaphysics, epistemology, as well as several specialized ares.

Guided by a nationally recognized faculty, students learn to reason and write clearly, gain insight into themselves, society and the human condition, and develop the ability to work in productive collaboration with others as global citizens.
