The practice of philosophy — the pursuit of wisdom and truth — is one of the oldest and most abiding human intellectual endeavors. Engaging in it encourages individuals to become ethical, thoughtful and contributing members of society.
The Philosophy Department at the University of Idaho offers a variety of academic opportunities for its students. They are able to choose from a wide range of courses in the core areas of philosophy, including ethics, political philosophy, metaphysics, epistemology and the philosophy of science. Nationally recognized faculty help students learn to reason and to write clearly, to gain insight into themselves, society and the human condition, and to develop the ability to work in productive collaboration with others as global citizens.
