Alcohol is the number one health problem on college campuses. Excessive drinking among college students is associated with a variety of negative consequences that include fatal and nonfatal injuries; alcohol poisoning; blackouts; academic failure; violence, including rape and assault; unintended pregnancy; sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS; property damage; and career and legal consequences that could jeopardize future job prospects. A decade of data collection and research has informed and guided Institutions of Higher Education’s efforts to reduce the risk of excessive drinking among college students. This presentation will provide a summary of alcohol use by University of Idaho students and explore various interventions being implemented to reduce the consequences of high-risk drinking.
