President M. Duane Nellis Honors James A. McClure
by U-Idaho President M. Duane Nellis
The University of Idaho joins the state and nation in mourning the passing of Senator Jim McClure. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to his wife, Louise, and the family. Words seem inadequate to capture all that is his legacy. Jim McClure will stand as one of Idaho’s best public officials and one of our very best citizens; his passionate dedication to public service led to a lifelong career that had far-reaching local, state and national impact. He modeled both civic engagement and civic leadership to foster a better understanding of our world, and indeed, a better world. As an institution, we are proud of his long and supportive association with the University of Idaho, where he earned his bachelor’s and law degrees. His dedication to service has been likened to the words of President John Quincy Adams, who said: ‘If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.’ While we will continue to aspire to follow Jim McClure’s example and lead, we truly are diminished by his absence among us.
