Ben Shors, a former Montana high school hoop star from Cutbank, is a clinical assistant professor at Washington State University and an award-winning journalist specializing in environmental and public-interest reporting in the Pacific Northwest. In 2008, he was a national finalist for the Livingston Award, which recognizes the country’s top journalist under the age of 35. A former fellow with the International Center for Journalists, Shors has reported from Germany, Panama and South Africa. He has written for MSNBC.com, the Miami Herald, the Seattle Times, and the Spokesman-Review, among others. In 2007, he was also a lead reporter for a child-welfare series that won the national Anna Quindlen Award for Excellence in Journalism. Shors also advises the student chapters of the Online News Association and the Society for Professional Journalists at WSU, as well as serving as the editorial adviser for The Daily Evergreen, a 12,000-circulation student newspaper.
