Grace Nixon English Institute 2012

NEW THIS SUMMER: NIXON IN BOISE!

The UI English department will offer TWO summer opportunities for in-service language arts instructors to earn graduate-level English credit TUITION FREE. A special feature of both sessions will be training for teachers who want to teach dual-enrollment English classes in their schools.

Nixon One:
Moscow campus, June 11-July 6.

Two 3-credit classes, one taught by Nixon Institute veteran Steve Chandler focusing on the teaching of grammar at the secondary level, the other by newcomer David Sigler on the 19th century British novel. Two 1-credit week-long courses taught by Jodie Nicotra and Aaron Schab. These courses certify you to teach dual-enrollment English 101 and 175.

Nixon Two:
Boise, July 9-20.

A two-week, 3-credit course on the literature of environmental justice taught by Jan Johnson. A repeat of the 1-credit week-long courses taught by Jodie Nicotra and Aaron Schab.

Teachers are welcome to apply for either or both sessions.

The English department will pay the entire cost of tuition, and provide free housing for those who require it, for up to thirty qualified in-service teachers.

Of the various programs funded by Grace Nixon's bequest, the Nixon English Institute is probably the most successful in accomplishing the endowment's goal: to enhance the teaching of English.
