This course will focus on two strategies for engaging students with Shakespeare’s texts: adapting Shakespeare to another context and using performance to enhance student comprehension. We’ll read examples of Shakespeare’s comedies, tragedies and history plays and develop exercises that encourage students to “translate” Shakespeare, both through adaptation and through performance. These exercises will be designed to incorporate key common core standards in English Language Arts.
