Sergi Agusti
Cultural producer and documentary filmmaker, Sergi Agusti based in Barcelona, has developed his projects around peace activism, social engagement and disability, mainly in Africa, in countries such as Sierra Leone, Ethiopia and RD Congo.
His work is focused on social subjects, always embracing a close, optimistic, vivid view of reality, far from the usual prejudices and victim-like vision we have about Africa or disability.
The use of aggressive settings and the search for excellent brightness in his images makes an impact on the spectator and open his mind: “the way to start the change” as he says.
During the last 10 years, around his films, Sergi Agusti has developed different cultural and educational projects around themes like Activism and AIDS, Music and Peace or the project ONE GOAL around amputee soccer and peace activism who is working with since 2003.
Sergi Agusti: “I think that emotion is always above technique. I try to understand what I see while looking through the camera and trying to be invisible.
This is the way to make everything I shoot real. Even though it might be real for just me”.
During 2012 he has been involved with the Special Olympics Barcelona and has directed a series of shorts for TV to make awareness of the need to integrate people with disabilities in the society.
And he is actually developing the second part of the Project One Goal, extending the sport and educational activities to others countries in Africa, to make awareness and work on the integration of disable people in African societies, working together with the Amputee Football Federation of Africa (AFFA).
