Chanticleer
Chanticleer, called “the world’s reigning male chorus” by The New Yorker magazine, opens the 2012-2013 season of Moscow’s Auditorium Chamber Music Series on Tuesday, October 2.
The GRAMMY award-winning ensemble celebrates its 35th anniversary in the 2012-13 season during which it will perform more than 100 concerts in 29 of the United States, in Europe, and in the Asia/Pacific region. Praised by the San Francisco Chronicle for their “tonal luxuriance and crisply etched clarity,” The ensemble - based in San Francisco - is known around the world as “an orchestra of voices” for the seamless blend of its twelve male voices ranging from countertenor to bass and its original interpretations of vocal literature, from Renaissance to jazz, and from gospel to venturesome new music.
Chanticleer’s program for the Auditorium Series -The Word Became Flesh - includes works by Renaissance masters as well as new compositions and a selection of traditional gospel songs and spirituals. Chanticleer will also be teaching a master class in choral singing while they are on the University of Idaho campus. The school’s concert choir, the Vandaleers, will be singing for Chanticleer, and all those who are interested in learning from the coaching are welcome to observe the class from 12:30 to 1:45 PM on October 2 in the University Auditorium in the UI Administration Building.
The concert by Chanticleer will be in the UI Auditorium at 7:30 on October 2. This first concert of the Series will be followed on November 13 by the Weiss-Kaplan-Newman Piano Trio. The Linden String Quartet performs on January 24, and the Prism Saxophone Quartet closes the season on March 5. The outreach activities offered by all the visiting ensembles, including the Chanticleer master class, are made possible in part by generous grants from the Idaho Commission on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Season tickets for the Auditorium Chamber Music Series are still available, as are tickets for the Chanticleer concert. BookPeople of Moscow is now selling Chanticleer tickets, and tickets for individual concerts as well as season subscriptions are available online.
