Chemical engineering is the only engineering discipline based on chemistry.  As a chemical engineer you will possess a versatility which will give you many advantages for employment. Our curriculum is designed to teach you the skills and knowledge necessary to reach your full potential as an chemical engineer.  The principle work areas for chemical engineers are Environmental Engineering, Pulp and Paper, Chemical Industries, Petroleum and Fuel Industries, Nuclear and Energy, Electronic Materials, and Biotechnology. 

According to The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), the annual 2005 starting salary for a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering was $55,900.  This figure is typical of the salaries earned by our graduates in the Pacific Northwest region.

The University does award scholarships to incoming freshman and transfer students.  The College of Engineering also awards scholarships based on academic merit and financial need to new students and returning engineering students.  The Department of Chemical Engineering awards scholarships based on academic merit and financial need. Each scholarship has specific eligibility requirements.

Graduate students are supported by department-sponsored Research Assistantships.   A graduate assistantship consists of a  monthly stipend; health insurance, tuition and fees are paid by the department for a specified period of time.  Graduate students may supplement their assistantship by obtaining external funds from a research agency or facility.  Graduate students are encouraged to apply for government-funded fellowships.  The Graduate College/Office of Research Development offers travel money each year to qualified students to present their research results at national conferences.
