Common Registration Errors
Undergraduates must contact or meet with an academic adviser before they can register.
When I tried to register, I got an error. Now what do I do?
First, identify the specific error then proceed to the resolution steps:
Registration Error: ADVISER HOLD… means that your registration hold has not been lifted
Resolution Steps: Contact your academic adviser or department to lift the hold. If you need advising assistance, contact the Academic Advising Center at (208) 885-9831.
Registration Error: CLASS RESTRICTION… means the class is restricted to enrollment by upper-classmen only (generally, freshman cannot enroll in upper-division courses – numbered 300-499).
Resolution Steps: Contact the department offering the class to see if they are willing to waive this restriction and give you a registration override on VandalWeb which will allows you to register.
Registration Error: CLOSED SECTION-WAIT LIST AVAILABLE…means the class is full, but you may opt to place yourself on the wait list in case room becomes available; registration is automatic for most classes when room becomes available.
Resolution Steps: Put yourself on the wait list by selecting the Wait List action and clicking the 'submit changes' button. Also check for other sections of the same class which will fit into your schedule. Your schedule must be able to accommodate the additional credits if space becomes available in the class and you are selected for registration; your name will be by-passed if this is not the case. Students are sent a courtesy email to VandalMail, notifying them when successful registration occurs.
Wait listed classes are dropped after the sixth day of the semester if registration does not occur.
Registration Error: DEPARTMENT or INSTRUCTOR PERMISSION REQUIRED… means the department is allowing only select individuals to register for class.
Resolution Steps: Contact the department or instructor offering the class to see if you qualify for enrollment. The department or instructor must enter a registration override on VandalWeb which will allow you to register.
Registration Error: DEGREE RESTRICTION…means that the class is restricted to students seeking specific degree(s).
Resolution Steps: Contact the department offering the class to inquire about special permission for registering; a registration override entered on VandalWeb will allow you to register.
Registration Error: LEVEL RESTRICTION…means that the class is restricted (generally) to Graduate or Law students.
Resolution Steps: Check for other classes that are undergraduate level in the same area; contact the department offering the course if you need assistance.
Registration Error: PRE-REQUISITE NOT MET… means that the class has a specific requirement for enrollment that VandalWeb cannot verify that you have completed.
Resolution Steps: Check the General Catalog for pre-requisite definitions; contact the department offering course for waivers; a registration override entered on VandalWeb will allow you to register.
