Foley Scholarship Recipient
"My name is Heather Bloom, and I am a junior, majoring in accounting and finance. I am currently planning to graduate in December 2009. I came to the University of Idaho from Sugar Hill, New Hampshire. However, my family recently relocated to Bigfork, Montana, so I have since been calling Bigfork my home.
"The business program offered here at the university persuaded me to travel 3,000 miles for my education. I was impressed with the Integrated Business Curriculum (IBC) and the recognition it has received from many large employers in the Northwest. My IBC team worked exceedingly hard through the year-long program, and earned the prestigious IBC Team of the Year Award.
"When I am not studying, I am actively involved in the Barker Trading Program, participating in both the trading classes and the Barker Capital Management Group. This program has given me opportunities to learn the technical and fundamental drivers of the stock market. It has also given me the ability to actively trade. Barker has opened many new doors that I never dreamed possible.
"I am able to pursue my education because of my tuition waiver, academic scholarships, teaching assistant (TA) position, and internship opportunities I receive. As a recipient of the Foley Scholarship, I have been able to devote more time to the trading program and my studies.
"Upon graduation, I see myself pursuing a career in corporate finance and focusing on cost and risk management. I currently have an internship with Boeing and am looking forward to applying what I have learned in school to the ever-changing business environment."
