Business Process Center

Each semester students use data and simulation software in collaboration with global and regional companies to redesign and improve processes. Students' simulations allow companies to observe improved processes without implementation to assess factors including cost and feasibility. Working with enterprises ranging from aerospace and manufacturing to food processing and timber harvesting, students increase organizational effectiveness, decrease costs and reduce waste for real businesses while achieving industry-based experience.

Why the Business Process Center?

The center's projects provide students real-world work experience they can put on their resume when applying for jobs. Students will be ready to speak with potential employers about handling big data, modeling business processes and using process simulation software. Students will also be able to speak about reporting project findings to executives, collaborations with industry leaders and interdisciplinary teamwork.

Sales at the Pump

Recently, a Moscow-based fueling station believed it was losing diesel sales due to the current arrangement of their gas and diesel pumps. Working with the fueling station, Business Process Center (BPC) students:

Used fueling station traffic data and simulation software to create an average day of sales.

Discovered the station's current fuel pump arrangement does result in lost diesel sales each day.

Rearranged the fuel pumps with virtual modeling to decrease lost diesel sales each day.

Using BPC student's simulation and final report, the fueling station determined that revenue from the additional diesels sales would justify the cost of rearranging their four gasoline and two diesel fueling pumps.
