2014 Business Plan Competition: Saturday, April 26th with over $20,000 available in three tracks
The University of Idaho Business Plan Competition is a student competition designed to approximate the real-world process of launching a business and raising capital for the venture. The goal is for students to gain real experience during the business plan competition while developing and growing new ventures based either on their own ideas and technologies or those developed by others. The goal of the competition is to see students launch the business presented.
All submissions to the Business Plan Competition must live up to the high ideals of the University of Idaho. Your idea must be appropriate for a university-sponsored event. The University of Idaho reserves the right to disqualify any entry that in its judgment violates the letter or the spirit of the competition.
Three Competition Tracks
- Innovative ventures encompass new technologies, products and processes that generally involve intellectual property, often from the University of Idaho Office of Technology Transfer.
- Small businesses focus more on traditional retail, manufacturing, or service ventures, including new or expanded operations.
- Social entrepreneurship/Nonprofits pursue innovative solutions to social problems and adopt a mission of creating and sustaining social value. These ventures can be set up as a non-profit organization (i.e., 501(c) (3)), or as a profit-oriented business with a social mission. The Return on Investment (ROI) for the social entrepreneurship business will be measured by an impact analysis and/or a financial ROI.
